Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectral Discrimination in Human Tissue of Oesophageal Transformation to Adenocarcinoma

This study presents ATR-FTIR (attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared) spectral analysis of ex vivo oesophageal tissue including all classifications to adenocarcinoma (OAC). The article adds further validation previous human studies identifying the potential for spectroscopy in differentiating among classes transformation OAC. Tissue used principal component quadratic discriminant (PCA-QDA), successive projection algorithm (SPA-QDA), and genetic (GA-QDA) algorithms variable selection classification. variables selected by SPA-QDA GA-QDA discriminated samples from Barrett’s oesophagus (BO) OAC with 100% accuracy on basis unique “fingerprints” their biochemical composition. Accuracy test results sensitivity specificity were determined. best obtained PCA-QDA, where tissues ranging normal correctly classified 90.9% overall (71.4–100% 89.5–100% specificity), discrimination between inflammatory tissue, which failed GA-QDA. All models revealed excellent distinguishing BO, low-grade dysplasia (LGD), high-grade (HGD), (100% sensitivities specificities). highlights need work markers using that could be utilised as an adjunct histopathological diagnosis early detection neoplastic changes susceptible epithelium.
